I am a professional editor, working in the genres of science fiction and fantasy.

I can edit work in any format and stage of completion, whether short stories, poems, single chapters or entire novels, and whether you have an incomplete first draft or the twentieth revision of your novel.

I will improve your manuscript on every level, from spelling and grammar to broader issues such as character and plot. More specifically, I will proofread, copy edit, and structurally edit your work.
  • Proofreading
This means that I will correct misspellings and grammatical errors. As an Australian who has generally written for American markets, I am able to use your choice of US or Commonwealth spelling. Similarly, I can apply formal or informal grammar as appropriate for your style and intended audience.

  • Copy Editing
This means that I will make sure your work meets the 'five Cs': clear, correct, concise, comprehensible, and consistent. I will suggest improvements to elements of your writing which are not outright mistakes of spelling or grammar, but which could be more elegantly written.

  • Structural Editing
This means that I will suggest improvements to the structure of your work. For example, I might suggest that a particular sub-plot is overshadowing your main plot, or that a particular plot point could be given in dialogue rather than by a narrator.

My qualifications are listed here. Rates and payment are explained here. If you have a question that isn't answered anywhere on this site, please feel free to contact me via this form. Or, if you're ready, submit your writing.

'Take your sword, man, and cut out my heart; then squeeze it so that the blood will flow over the red stone. Then go you down these stairs and enter the ebony chamber where Yara sits wrapped in lotus-dreams of evil. Speak his name and he will awaken. Then lay this gem before him, and say, "Yag-kosha gives you a last gift and a last enchantment."

Robert E. Howard.
